For many, ChatGPT is synonymous with artificial intelligence. Also, the other most popular AI solutions are in the hands of a few global companies from the US and China. Alternatives, however, are possible, and are emerging under the banner of public AI: technologies created in the public interest, by public and social institutions, under democratic control. The report “Art x Public AI,” published this year by London’s Serpentine Gallery, offers a vision of AI created by and for art and cultural institutions. With our guests, we want to talk about the democratization of AI: involving various organizations and groups so that AI is not solely in the hands of corporations. We will also highlight efforts to create public AI in Poland, related to the open language model BIelik.
